A New Era in Engine Protection and Efficiency

In the spring of 2025, Aminol introduced API SQ-compliant engine oils: A New Era in Engine Protection and Efficiency.

At Aminol, we are committed to staying at the forefront of lubricant innovation. That commitment includes aligning our next-generation gasoline engine oils with the new API SQ specification, the latest performance standard introduced by the American Petroleum Institute (API). API SQ officially came into effect in May 2025, and it reflects critical advancements in oil technology that address the demands of modern gasoline engine

What Makes API SQ Different?
API SQ elevates performance over the previous API SP standard in several meaningful ways:

  • Enhanced Fuel Efficiency

API SQ is designed to reduce internal engine friction, which can contribute to improved fuel economy.

  • Advanced LSPI Protection

One of the most significant updates is support for the LSPI Aged-Oil Test meaning engine protection is evaluated not only on fresh oil but also on used oil. This is vital for modern, turbocharged, high-compression engines where Low-Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) can pose a serious risk.

  • Improved Engine Cleanliness

API SQ sets stricter requirements for oxidation stability and deposit control, which helps minimize piston deposits and maintain engine performance over time.

  • Lower Sulfated Ash Content

To better protect Gasoline Particulate Filters (GPFs), API SQ limits sulfated ash to a maximum of 0.9%, reducing the risk of filter clogging.

  • Better Cold-Start Performance

With stricter low-temperature viscosity requirements, API SQ oils are formulated to flow more reliably during cold starts, which helps ensure engine protection in harsh conditions.

  • Support for Ultra-Low Viscosity Oils

API SQ includes very low-viscosity grades (such as SAE 0W-8 and 0W-12), enabling newer engine designs to leverage more efficient lubricant technologies.

Why Aminol Is Embracing API SQ

  • Future-Ready Formulations: We have reformulated specific Aminol oils to meet API SQ performance demands, ensuring they deliver both protection and efficiency for the latest engine designs.
  • Rigorous Testing: Our R&D and laboratory teams apply the full suite of API-required tests, including LSPI aged-oil, oxidation, viscosity, and deposit control, to validate each formulation.
  • Engine Compatibility: These oils are suitable for modern turbocharged, direct-injection gasoline engines-supporting both performance and longevity.
  • Emission System Safety: By keeping sulfated ash low, our API SQ oils help safeguard sensitive emission components like GPFs, contributing to cleaner exhaust and better environmental performance.

What This Means for You

  • Better Efficiency: With Aminol API SQ oils, drivers can benefit from enhanced fuel economy without compromising on protection.
  • Longer Engine Life: Improved deposit control and LSPI protection help reduce the risk of engine knock and premature wear.
  • Cleaner Emissions: Lower ash formulations are kinder to particulate filters, supporting modern emission regulations.
  • Confidence in Modern Engines: Whether your vehicle features a downsized turbo, direct injection, or ultra-low viscosity design, Aminol’s API SQ oils are engineered to meet those evolving needs.

Aminol’s Commitment to Innovation

As part of our innovation roadmap, Aminol is continuously evaluating and expanding our product line to include API SQ-approved grades. We are investing in advanced R&D, leveraging our partnerships with global additive experts, and optimizing manufacturing to deliver high-performance oils that are built for the future.

By adopting API SQ, Aminol reaffirms its dedication to scientific excellence, real-world performance, and environmental responsibility.
