The Science of Base Oils

In Aminol lubricants, the base oil represents the fundamental component of every formulation and accounts for the largest proportion of the finished product. Whether used in engine oils, transmission fluids, hydraulic oils, or greases, the base oil largely determines the lubricant’s physical and chemical behavior.

Key characteristics such as viscosity, temperature response, lubricating film strength, evaporation loss, and resistance to oxidation are primarily influenced by the selected base oil. While additives typically make up around 10-20% of a lubricant, the remaining base oil defines the product’s core performance potential.

Base oils are classified by the American Petroleum Institute (API) into five groups based on their origin, refining process, and chemical composition. Mineral base oils (Groups I-III) are derived from crude oil through varying degrees of refining, while synthetic base oils (Groups IV and V) are chemically engineered to deliver higher purity, improved stability, and enhanced performance.

By selecting appropriate base oil groups and combining them with precisely balanced additive systems, Aminol ensures reliable lubrication, controlled ageing behavior, and effective protection under both normal and demanding operating conditions.

Aminol lubricants are formulated using a carefully selected range of Group I, II, and III base oils, allowing the brand to cover everything from standard maintenance needs to higher-performance engine protection.

  • Group I base oils are applied in entry-level and industrial formulations where reliability and affordability are key.

  • Group II base oils provide improved cleanliness, oxidation resistance, and reduced volatility for everyday modern engines.
  • Group III base oils are used in advanced formulations, offering high viscosity index and near-synthetic performance for demanding driving conditions.

This structured approach enables Aminol to deliver dependable lubrication across a wide range of vehicles and operating environments.

Beyond meeting its own production requirements, Aminol is also an established supplier of high-quality base oils to a number of well-known European lubricant brands. Through exclusive and direct access to base oil sources, Aminol is able to supply various API Group base oils to other manufacturers, ensuring consistent quality, reliable availability, and competitive performance.

This direct and exclusive access to base oils provides Aminol with strong control over raw material sourcing, cost stability, and formulation flexibility. As a result, Aminol can efficiently manage final product pricing while maintaining strict quality standards. This advantage allows the brand to offer its finished lubricants at fair and competitive prices across global markets, without compromising on performance or reliability.
